Harleguin launches a digital-only publishing house Carina Press (www.carinapress.com). It will sell e-books directly to consumers or trough other sites. According to the bookseller.com the new publishing house will release new titles on a weekly basis from the summer of 2010.
Of course it’s only for USA and Canada. Right now they are looking for talented writers, as it is said in their web site, in genres like broad range of fiction with an emphasis on romance and its subgenres, but also mystery, suspense, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, erotica, gay/lesbian, and more.
In the FAQ page is said that “The Carina Press contract does not include an advance or DRM, and authors are compensated with a higher royalty” and that as long it is a commercial fiction – the house is interested. The good news is that the books would be edited and copy edited, thus providing a better quality of the work.
The author will not be charged for publication, editing, cover art or other services if the manuscript is chosen for publishing.
It could be an interesting new venture and something to look for in 2010 and for now the prices look great for a digital book – from 3.49 to 5.39$
